Nobuyoshi Araki & Yasunori Okatome - Shinjuku! - 1984

Shinjuku! Nobuyoshi Araki & Yasunori Okatome Seiunsha/1984/Japanese/130*213*13 Nobuyoshi Araki, one of Japan's leading postwar photographers, and Yasunori Okadome, an editor, co-authored "Shinjuku yo! (Shinjuku! Shinjuku!). The magazine “Shashin Jidai” was published in the 1980s with the statement, “Araki is the media,” rather than "Photography is the media. In the 1980s, the famous editor Akira Suei planned to create a magazine about Araki, a magazine centering on Araki, whose very existence is a media, and he took “photographs that cannot be captured in photographic theory” and “photographs that cannot be featured in camera magazines” and created a magazine called “Shashin Jidai,” in which Araki and others collaborated to create a magazine that would be a medium for Araki's work. This now legendary photography magazine published several hundred thousand copies of each issue through collaboration with eroticism. It was in the 1980s that the collaboration with Suei opened the eyes of the artist Nobuyoshi Araki, whose talent transcended the boundaries of the photographer: concepts, thematic settings, comical photography, unique works, and unique catch copy and lighting. This book is a collection of works published in the mid-80s, the heyday of Araki's photographic period, and is based on the theme of “Shinjuku” with text by Yasunori Okadome, who also served as chief editor of “Rumor of Truth,” and illustrations taken by Araki. The book is a collection of works that not only contains highly readable texts that tell the story of Shinjuku at that time, but also the black-and-white images taken by Araki are also very tasteful.
