Jarrón de esmalte azul de cerámica Arita - Porcelana - Zenji Sadamatsu 貞松 善次 (b. 1948) - Japón - Periodo Shōwa (1926-1989)

Sadamatsu Zenji(貞松善次) – Arita ware blue glaze vase This work, created by Arita ware potter Sadamatsu Zenji, features a striking gradation of deep indigo and ultramarine created by layering glazes. The color subsides like the ocean before dawn, exuding a bottomless depth. The elegant cylindrical form is accented by flowing glaze tones. Depending on the viewing angle and lighting, subtle fluctuations of purple and blue-green appear on the surface. It transcends mere glaze expression; it seems to capture a tranquil landscape where light and shadow resonate. Arita ware is said to have originated in the early 17th century by Korean potter Yi Sam-pyeong. For over 400 years, it has shone brilliantly in Japanese art history as the center of porcelain culture. This work embodies the pinnacle of white porcelain and glaze techniques honed over this long history. The lustrous yet somewhat introspective colors embody the Arita spirit, which speaks of "silent beauty" rather than pursuing brilliance. Their tranquility evokes an abstract beauty that is also reminiscent of modern European design. ◆About Sadamatsu Zenji(貞松善次)◆ Sadamatsu Zenji is a contemporary ceramic artist based in Arita, Saga Prefecture. While studying traditional styles such as Ko-Imari and Kakiemon, he places the "depth of the glaze" and "tranquility of form" at the heart of his expression. His works are characterized by the beauty of Arita ware's distinctive white porcelain as a foundation, and by layering flowing glaze colors on top, he treats the glaze itself as a painting rather than a painting. In particular, the indigo glaze seen in this piece is so intricate that it takes on a subtle metallic luster through delicate adjustments of firing temperature and oxidation/reduction, giving it a deep expression resembling a point in the night sky.
