This Rado Mannheim is a striking example of 1970s watch design that combines a bold cushion case with a truly mesmerizing dial. With its distinctive shape and vibrant color profile, this timepiece represents the experimental and avant-garde approach Rado took during this era. Dial and Hands
The highlight of this timepiece is undoubtedly the deep blue sunburst dial which plays beautifully with the light and changes from a dark navy to a vibrant azure depending on the angle. The dial features the signature rotating Rado anchor logo at the 12 o'clock position against a red background which remains a beloved feature among collectors. Above the 6 o'clock position sits the gold-tone applied "M" logo specific to the Mannheim line. The applied silver-tone hour markers are blocky and distinct, matched by baton-style hands with aged luminous inserts. A date window is positioned at 3 o'clock framed in silver.

Case and Crystal
The stainless steel case features a classic 1970s cushion shape with integrated lugs that give it a substantial presence despite the classic dimensions. The case combines brushed surfaces on the top with polished sides. There are visible signs of wear throughout the case including surface scratches and small nicks around the bezel and lugs which attest to its history and honest vintage character. The crown is original and signed with the Rado anchor logo. The screw-down caseback features the iconic Rado triple seahorse "Water Sealed" engraving which is deep and clearly legible. The crystal is clear with no major distractions.

Movement
Powering the watch is a gold-plated Rado signed automatic movement based on the ETA 2797 caliber featuring 25 jewels. The movement presentation is clean and the rotor spins freely. On the timegrapher the watch is currently running between -50 and -59 seconds per day which indicates a functioning movement offering reliable vintage performance.

Strap
The watch is fitted with a black leather strap featuring contrasting white stitching which complements the sporty yet elegant nature of the cushion case. It is secured by a stainless steel pin buckle and is comfortable for daily wear.

Condition
This timepiece is in good vintage condition. The case shows honest wear with scratches and marks consistent with a life of use, particularly on the high-polish areas. However, the dial is in excellent condition with no visible staining or damage to the sunburst finish. The hands and markers are crisp and the text remains sharp. The anchor logo is intact.

Dimensions
The case measures 35 mm in width excluding the crown and offers a lug-to-lug presence that fills the wrist well due to the squared cushion design. The thickness is moderate allowing it to slide under a cuff while maintaining a sporty profile.

Remarks
The Rado Mannheim is a less common reference that offers a fantastic entry point into the world of vintage Rado. The combination of the "M" logo, the specific "Mannheim" script, and that electric blue dial makes it a standout piece for collectors who appreciate the funky geometry of the 1970s.

History
Rado has long been a pioneer in materials and design, establishing itself in the mid-20th century as a brand willing to take risks. The Mannheim line was produced during a golden era for the brand when they were experimenting with heavy tungsten carbide cases and colorful dials. This specific model utilizes traditional stainless steel but keeps the futuristic design language that defined the brand's identity during the 1970s.
