China porcelain bowl enameled with figures of the Unmatched Heroes – Qing Dynasty, 19th century
Extraordinary bowl of Chinese porcelain decorated with polychrome glazes in the "famille rose" technique and raised on a richly ornate annular foot.
The decoration represents historical figures from the famous Wu Shuang Pu series, known as the “Table of Unmatched Heroes,” a popular collection of portraits of legendary, literary, and military Chinese figures who symbolize virtue, courage, and erudition. Each character is accompanied by an identifying inscription and brief texts in Chinese calligraphy, presented in rectangular or oval cartouches.
The portraits are meticulously hand-painted, with traditional costumes of rich chromaticity and stylized expression, typical of the late Qing Dynasty aesthetic (19th century). The scene includes both male and female figures, captured in heroic or symbolic poses, surrounded by inscriptions alluding to their deeds or virtues.
This piece stands out not only for its refined artistic craftsmanship but also for its cultural and iconographic value, being a clear example of the intersection between decorative ceramics and Chinese literary and historical tradition.
Condition: Very good overall, with slight wear on the edges. No visible restorations.
