This Iban ritual basket was collected in Indonesia in the 1970's in its current condition. It is estimated it is from the mid 20th century. The basket is finely woven and complete. One small tie has broken on the back side (see pictures), but otherwise it is in very good shape. It does show signs of use by the previous local owner. This ritual basket from the Iban Dayak, Sarawak Indonesia, is lightly carved with dragon motifs and that of other ritual animals. The weaving is well done and nicely finished at the corners and sides. It smells neutral and there is no damage due to mold or animals. It is 32 cm high, 26 broad cm and 9 cm deep at the base.. This item will be carefully packed and shipped with insurance.
