A compelling vertical of three consecutive vintages of Elvio Cogno Barolo Ravera Bricco Pernice — the crown jewel of one of Barolo's most visionary and beloved estates, from the historic heart of the Ravera cru in Novello.
Elvio Cogno single-handedly put the Novello township on the Barolo map, creating what is now one of Piedmont's most sought-after estates. Today his son-in-law Valter Fissore continues the legacy with exceptional rigor. The Bricco Pernice — "hill of the courting partridges" — is a warm, south-facing parcel at 320 metres on limestone-rich clay, the finest plot within the celebrated Ravera MGA. Production is extremely limited.
The 2016, from Barolo's greatest recent vintage, is described as "absolutely gorgeous — a tour de force. Rose petal, violet, mint, ripe black cherry, lavender, spice, menthol, licorice and orange peel. The 2018, rated 96/100 Wine Enthusiast, delivers raspberry compote, licorice, baking spice and tobacco alongside firm, refined tannins and bright acidity — "gorgeous, with enticing aromas of rose, iris, woodland berry, camphor and truffle."
