Aizu Hongo Ware History Established in 1593, Aizu Hongo ware is one of the oldest pottery traditions in the Tohoku region. It was formally developed in 1645 by the master potter Mizuno Genzaemon, invited from Seto, and further expanded in 1800 when porcelain techniques were introduced from Arita. It is a designated National Traditional Craft of Japan. This piece showcases the kiln's signature "Ryumon" (flowing pattern) glaze, featuring a deep emerald green base with ethereal purple and white streaks that resemble flowing water.
