About the artist :
Reine Poaty is a fine artist based in Bordeaux, France, working from a studio tucked inside her apartment just steps from the Gare Saint-Jean — a space that carries the low hum of a city in motion, of arrivals and departures, of life passing close by.
At 39, Poaty came to painting on her own terms. No formal training, no institutional hand to guide the brush — only years of consistent, deliberate practice that have forged a voice that is unmistakably her own.
Her work lives in the tension between control and surrender. She respects the architecture of her subjects — their weight, their form, their truth — but resists the pull toward precision. Perfection, to her, is beside the point. What she chases instead is feeling: the kind that lives in shadow, in texture, in the moody richness of dark, saturated color. Her palette leans heavy and lush, coaxing atmosphere from oil in the way a late evening coaxes silence from a room.
Poaty paints close. Her subjects fill the frame unapologetically, stripped of distance and backdrop, demanding to be seen. There is an intimacy in her compositions that is not accidental — it is a choice, a refusal to let the viewer look away.
