Koriste-esine (2) - Indonesia - Borobudur-temppelin replika
This piece is a decorative stone relief panel, consisting of a modern replica (produced in the mid- or late 20th century) inspired by the famous narrative sculptures of the Borobudur Buddhist temple, located in Central Java, Indonesia.
The original Borobudur monument dates from the 8th to 9th centuries AD (Sailendra Dynasty). However, modular panels fragmented into blocks like this one are reproductions carved from reconstituted stone or textured limestone, very popular in the last century for decorative and collecting purposes. The image depicts a male figure of royalty (probably a prince, king, or Bodhisattva) accompanied by his consort or a lady-in-waiting in a relaxed and affectionate pose.
The figures feature the characteristic detailed jewelry, ornate diadems (mukuta), and curvilinear poses that perfectly mimic the classical tradition of Javanese art with influences from the Indian Gupta style.
The piece is divided into several square-shaped blocks to faithfully mimic the assembly of andesite stones fitted together without mortar, which make up the architecture of the original temple.37 x 37 cm.
