A superbly made bronze cannon on wooden gun carriage with iron fittings, measuring circa 47cm in total length and weighing 3,6Kg. The cannon is a replica of the 1776 British light 6-pounder cannon used in the 18th century, particularly during the American Revolutionary War era. This is a high quality, detailed replica. Ramrod missing. Annotated to the side on an engraved plaque with regimental numbers and name, most probably a regimental gift for a retiring high artillery officer such as Master Gunner or Colonel. Acquired in Belgium, presumed but not certain to have Belgian provenance. By tradition, such model cannons were gifted to high ranking artillery officers in the armies of various countries in the world upon their retirement as a keepsake to commemorate their career.
