A beautifully cast bronze goldwight, representing a woman pounding the millet. Cast by a Ashanti bronze-smith who clearly knew his skills; a bronze cast with very fine details has emerged. These figurative objects were used, alongside the more geometric bronzes, to indicate a certain wieght of golddust. Gold was a important commodity in the Gold Coast (Ghana) of the 20th Century. Collected in the city of Kumasi in the late 1990,s. From a private Dutch collection. Height.; 12 cm.
