Description

This is an original lithograph by the internationally acclaimed Spanish artist Antoni Clavé (1913–2005), titled Papier froissé (“Wrinkled Paper”).

Born in Barcelona in 1913, Clavé became one of the leading figures of the École de Paris and was closely associated with the Informel movement. Throughout his distinguished career, he received numerous international accolades, including the UNESCO Prize at the Venice Biennale (1954) and the Bridgestone Museum Prize at the Tokyo International Print Biennale (1957). His works are held in major museum collections around the world.

This lithograph exemplifies Clavé’s fascination with texture and materiality. Through subtle tonal variations and expressive composition, he evokes the tactile appearance of crumpled paper, transforming an everyday surface into a refined abstract image rich in depth and visual rhythm.

Clavé’s original prints continue to be highly regarded by collectors of post-war European art and remain a desirable addition to collections of modern and abstract printmaking.

Condition

Hand-signed in pencil by the artist in the lower right and numbered 75/170 in pencil in the lower left.

There is a noticeable stain on the lower right margin of the sheet. The printed image itself remains in good condition.

The frame shows light scuffs and minor scratches consistent with age and handling but is suitable for display. The storage box is also in generally good condition.
