L'ensemble des lithographies est sur le ton de la liberté la plus débridée. Moines s'affairant aux plus hautes et aux plus basses besognes. Femmes ardemment besognées par les plus vils notables. Le tout dessiné avec une précision et un humour des plus décapant. Le coloris très relevé fait de cette suite et de ce livre un très bel ouvrage curiosa.

Certains avancent le nom d'André Collot comme illustrateur de cet ouvrage.
Alexis Piron (1869-1773) était de ces "bourguignons salés". Tout à la fois poète, chansonnier, et auteur dramatique, ce fut un avocat au Parlement de Bourgogne qui ne plaida jamais. C'est vers l'âge de 20 ans en 1710, qu'il composa l'Ode à Priape. Priape, dieu Grec, doté d'un énorme sexe toujours en érection, sert de prétexte à ces poésies licencieuses très osées. Piron fut menacé de poursuites dans sa bonne ville de Dijon, mais Piron continua d'écrire. Piron peut être considéré comme le maître de l'épigramme et le Parangon du trait d'esprit. A deux siècles de distance l'un l'autre, on peut dire (en tous cas moi je le dis) que Piron et Verlaine sont les deux piliers de la poésie érotique. Alexis Piron, tout comme Verlaine, avait compris la force du mot juste, de l'imagerie verbale qui déclenche ou suscite le fantasme.

Alexis Piron (1869-1773) was one of those "salted Burgundians". At the same time poet, chansonnier, and playwright, he was a lawyer in the Parliament of Burgundy who never pleaded. It was around the age of 20 in 1710 that he composed the Ode to Priapus. Priapus, the Greek god with a huge sex still in erection, is used as an excuse for these very daring licentious poems. Piron was threatened with prosecution in his good city of Dijon, but Piron continued to write. Piron can be considered the master of the epigram and the Paragon of the witty trait. Two centuries apart, we can say (at least I say it) that Piron and Verlaine are the pillars of erotic poetry. Alexis Piron, like Verlaine, had understood the power of the right word, of verbal imagery that triggers or provocates the fantasy.
