The service features a refined decoration named "Spode's Tower" with romantic landscape scenes depicting buildings, bridges, waterways and trees, enclosed within rich floral and geometric borders. The central motif is framed by a deep blue band richly decorated with small flowers and ornamental motifs, while the shaped and slightly wavy edges give the elements a particular elegance.
The decoration "Spode's Tower" was introduced in 1814 and derives from an illustration printed in Merigot's book "Views of Rome and its Vicinity" published circa 1796-1798. The tower depicts the Salaro Bridge, near Rome. The bridge, which originally had a quay built above it, now lies beneath the main road that leads from Rome to the airport.

The service exemplifies the taste of English table ceramics from the 18th- to 19th-century tradition, especially valued for the transfer printing technique and the use of the distinctive cobalt blue. The decoration evokes the great tradition of English and Oriental blue-and-white wares.
