Story
Founded in 1888 in Grenchen, Switzerland, Certina developed a reputation for producing robust and technically dependable Swiss watches. The year 1888 remains an important part of the company's identity and is prominently displayed on both the dial and case-back of this watch.
The ODC One collection represents a particularly interesting chapter in Certina's modern design history. Rather than following the brand's more conventional sports-watch aesthetic, the collection experimented with bold case architecture, integrated bracelets and distinctive dial layouts.
Period ODC One models were produced in several configurations, including time-and-date and chronograph versions. Contemporary references confirm the collection's use of Swiss quartz movements, sapphire crystals and stainless-steel construction, while chronograph examples were positioned as men's sports watches.
This particular example is especially attractive thanks to its black chronograph dial, unusual architectural case, original Certina stainless-steel bracelet and signed clasp. The three-register layout, date indication and 40 mm case give the watch a strong early-2000s Swiss sports-watch character.
Today, the Certina ODC One is an interesting choice for collectors looking beyond the brand's better-known DS models. Its unconventional design makes it immediately recognizable and gives it a character quite different from mainstream Certina chronographs of the period.
