In the Sumerian and Assyrian periods, imdugud was considered a symbol of royal power and heavenly force.In Mesopotamia, people prayed more to the storm and thunder god during dry seasons. In some ancient images, Imdugud is shown above two lions or beside symbols of storm power, because it represented the wild force of nature and the divine power of the sky.
