Mohammed Shams od-Din Hafez - The Dewan - 1474

A very interesting 'ending' fragement from a dispersed copy of the Dewan, dated ‘Ramadan AD879 (i.e AD1474), originally authored by Mohammed Shams od-Din Hafez (1325-1399). It is unusual to find Dewan’s of such an early date, scribed only 21 years after the fall of Constantinople to Islam in 1453, and less than 100 years after the poets death. The manuscript consists of the last 32 pages of the Diwan, written in plain text, interspersed with chapter headings in gold or blue. It contains the colophon on the final page. Roughly translated this reads, " Tammat (it is finished), with the invocation of God's help, the month of completion and the date reading (879AH, which corresponds to 1474-75CE). The scribe has included the phrase "al Malik al-Dayyan" as it rhymes with "Diwan", a small calligraphic flourish typical of colophons. Please note the damage to the page which does not breaking the margins of the text. This is a rare item which would grace any collection. Please note that shipping costs are not solely the cost of the postal delivery service itself. Included within the shipping price is the work undertaken to prepare the article, for photography, for uploading to Catawiki, for preparation and packaging the article securely and for transporting the article to the postal delivery agent for processing. Also, please consider when bidding on this lot that this artwork is shipped from the UK. Import duties will now have to be paid by the recipient to the Postal Service when the parcel arrives in your country. This will likely vary between 5% and 20% of the sale price depending on your country's Import Rate, so please check this if you are concerned. This is a Tax collected on behalf of your Government and is not an additional fee charged by us.
