Tissot Electronic Seastar – Vintage Swiss Electronic Watch – Gold Plated – Date – 1970–1975
A distinctive vintage Tissot Electronic Seastar from the first half of the 1970s, representing an important transitional chapter between traditional mechanical watches and the quartz era.
Unlike a conventional quartz watch, this Seastar uses an early electronic balance-wheel movement: the watch is battery powered, while timekeeping is still regulated by a traditional balance and hairspring. This hybrid technology was one of the fascinating steps in Swiss watchmaking before quartz became dominant. Comparable Tissot Seastar Electronic watches are documented from approximately 1970–1975. The Watch Spot
The watch features a warm champagne sunburst dial, applied baton indexes with dark inserts, central seconds and a framed date window at 3 o’clock. The gold-plated cushion-shaped case completes its unmistakable early-1970s appearance.

Story & Heritage
This Seastar belongs to a particularly interesting period in watchmaking history. During the late 1960s and early 1970s, Swiss manufacturers were experimenting with electronic movements as an alternative to purely mechanical watches.
These movements should not be confused with quartz movements. They retained a traditional balance wheel and hairspring but replaced the mainspring with an electronically controlled, battery-powered system. The technology is often described as an evolutionary bridge between mechanical and quartz watchmaking. The Watch Spot
Tissot was among the Swiss manufacturers to offer watches using this technology, and documented Seastar Electronic examples date to the early 1970s. UhrForum
That makes this watch particularly appealing beyond its classic appearance: it represents a short and technically fascinating period in horological history, immediately before quartz technology transformed the global watch industry.
A characterful vintage Tissot combining classic Seastar styling with early Swiss electronic watchmaking technology.
