Item Description
This is a large-format Japanese art book from Shueisha's "Zenshu Ukiyo-e Hanga" (Complete Collection of Ukiyo-e Prints) series. It presents full-colour plate reproductions of the celebrated kabuki actor portraits signed 東洲斎写楽 Toshusai Sharaku. The pictured plates include dramatic bust portraits against grey backgrounds, double portraits of actors in costume, and a full-length figure study. Each is reproduced with the artist's signature and seal.

Sharaku's bold, expressive characterisation of actors is among the most recognisable achievements of Japanese woodblock printing. This volume would suit collectors of ukiyo-e, students of kabuki and Edo-period culture, and anyone seeking a substantial reference work on the subject. The photographs show the plates in detail.
