A distinctive Japanese ceramic flat plate (sara) featuring a unique fan shape (ogi-gata), accompanied by its original signed tomobako (wooden storage box). This piece is a fine example of "Karatsu Utsushi" (imitation of Karatsu ware), reflecting a deep appreciation for rustic simplicity and traditional craftsmanship. The plate is distinguished by its earthy grey-brown glaze, which contrasts beautifully with the warm, exposed reddish-brown clay body visible on the unglazed foot. This combination creates a refined yet rugged appearance, perfectly embodying the wabi-sabi aesthetic. The smooth, slightly undulating surface invites quiet contemplation, while the fan shape adds an elegant, artistic flair suitable for serving sashimi, appetizers, or as a decorative object. Each detail reflects careful craftsmanship, from the precise shaping of the fan edges to the controlled firing that produced this rich, textured surface. The presence of a signed tomobako inscribed with "Karatsu Utsushi" and "Shogaku Zo" confirms its origin as a preserved studio work by the artist Shogaku. Condition: Very good condition, with no cracks or restorations. The rustic texture and slight irregularities are intentional characteristics of this style.
