Sandoz Monsoon – A Rare Swiss Vintage with Triple Calendar Function
A bold design inspired by the rhythm of time and weather, crafted with Swiss precision.

This remarkable Sandoz Monsoon is a rare collector’s piece that captures the avant-garde spirit of 1970s Swiss watchmaking. Combining bold aesthetics with technical ingenuity, it stands as a testament to Sandoz’s reputation for innovation and reliability during an era of transition between classic mechanical and modern automatic timekeeping.

Case:
The gold-plated stainless steel case measures 41 x 39 mm, offering a distinctive cushion shape that exudes vintage charm. Its brushed texture and soft curves reflect the daring design trends of the 1970s, while dual crowns at 2 and 4 o’clock hint at its multifunctional complexity.

Glass:
Fitted with an acrylic crystal, preserving the authentic retro aesthetic while providing a warm visual depth to the dial.

Dial:
The golden sunburst dial is a visual masterpiece, accented with applied golden indexes and red highlights that emphasize the unique month and day apertures. The outer black ring adds contrast, housing the minute track and bold luminous hands. The day and date windows align perfectly at 3 o’clock, while the month window at 12 o’clock adds a rare and functional touch that elevates this timepiece into the realm of vintage Swiss complications.

Movement:
Powered by a Swiss-made Sandoz automatic movement (25 jewels), this watch delivers both reliability and mechanical sophistication. It features smooth automatic winding and the ability to display multiple calendar functions — a technical achievement for its time.

Functions:

Hours, minutes, seconds

Day and date display

Month indicator

Water Resistance:
Originally rated to 50 meters, though not tested for water resistance due to its vintage nature.

Strap:
Fitted with a generic brown leather strap with stitching, suitable for wrists up to 21 cm, complementing the watch’s warm gold tones.

Condition:
Grade B – shows visible signs of use consistent with age, yet remains well-preserved and fully functional, with strong presence on the wrist.

Box:
Comes with a generic presentation box.

Story:
Founded in the late 19th century in Switzerland, Sandoz built its reputation on robust, reliable timepieces often equipped with in-house movements. During the 1960s and 1970s, Sandoz became known for its daring experimentation with complications and futuristic case designs. The Monsoon model — named evocatively after nature’s powerful rhythm — embodies this spirit of creative engineering.

Its combination of automatic movement and triple calendar display (day, date, month) was highly advanced for its time, targeting the discerning gentleman who valued both functionality and character. The design’s dual crowns not only give it an unconventional flair but also hint at its mechanical sophistication — one for time adjustment, the other for calendar control.

The Sandoz Monsoon remains a rare find among vintage collectors, representing a perfect balance between Swiss precision and expressive design. It stands as a nostalgic echo of an era when watchmakers dared to innovate both mechanically and aesthetically — creating watches that were as much works of art as instruments of time.
