Citizen Chronometer – F-Postwar I Type – Manual winding – Men – ca. 1948

This is an extremely rare Citizen Chronometer F-Postwar I Type, manufactured around 1948 immediately after World War II.
It represents Citizen’s very first postwar development, based on the prewar F-Type, before being quickly replaced by the F-Postwar II Type in 1949. As a result, surviving examples of the F-Postwar I are very scarce.

The watch features a two-tone silver dial with Arabic numerals, elegant leaf hands, and a small seconds subdial at 6 o’clock. The dial proudly bears the “Chronometer” designation, reflecting Citizen’s ambition to deliver high precision during Japan’s reconstruction period.

Although compact at 27.6 mm without crown, this was the standard men’s size of the late 1940s and should be regarded as a true men’s watch of its era.

Highlights

Rare early Citizen Chronometer, F-Postwar I Type (ca. 1948)

Manual winding, small seconds at 6 o’clock

Stainless steel back, chrome-plated case

Two-tone dial with Arabic numerals, gold-tone indices, and vintage patina

Case diameter: 27.6 mm (without crown)

Case thickness: 10.0 mm approx.

Lug width: 15 mm

New black leather strap (Bambi, fits wrists up to ~17.5 cm)

Condition
The chrome-plated case shows visible wear and plating loss, consistent with age.
The dial has developed patina, once originally a milk-white finish, now giving the watch a strong antique character.
The watch winds and runs, but long-term accuracy has not been tested.

Summary
A historically important and very scarce model: the Citizen Chronometer F-Postwar I, produced only briefly around 1948 before being replaced by later versions.
A true collector’s piece that illustrates Citizen’s early postwar craftsmanship and competition with Seiko during Japan’s watchmaking revival.

Tracked and insured shipping with careful packaging.
