Title
Exceptional French Antique Silver Bonbon Basket with Lid – Minerva 1st Standard (950) – François Durand – c. 1828–1838
Description
This exceptional bonbon basket is an authentic French antique silver masterpiece from the early 19th century, created between 1828 and 1838.
The piece was crafted by François Durand, a renowned Parisian silversmith, active between 1828 and 1874. He was associated with the prestigious Odiot workshop and served as silversmith to the Duke of Orléans, later King Louis-Philippe of France. His works are highly regarded and were regularly presented at industrial and artistic exhibitions of the period.
The basket is hallmarked with the Minerva Head, 1st Standard, confirming a silver purity of 950/1000, one of the highest official silver standards in Europe.
It features an elegant lobed body, richly decorated handles, and an original domed lid topped with a finely executed floral finial. The proportions, weight, and craftsmanship reflect the highest level of French silversmithing of the Restoration and early Louis-Philippe period.
