Commemorative medal "Rescuers of the Seine and Oise" (Sauveteurs de Seine-et-Oise), dated 1870.
Medal of the Northern Rescue Society (Sauveteurs du Nord).
This award was given by a non-governmental organization recognizing merit in rescue at sea and in coastal waters.
Description and details:
Inscriptions: On the obverse, the inscription "SAUVETEURS DU NORD" (Rescuers of the North) appears in a circle. The recipient is indicated at the bottom: "DECERNEE A J. DEBOSQUE" (awarded to J. Debosque).
Symbolism: In the center of the composition is an anchor superimposed on two crossed hatchets, symbolizing maritime service and readiness to act in emergency situations. The medal is topped with a mural crown.
Ribbon: The medal is suspended from a moiré ribbon with alternating stripes of red, white, and blue, representing the national colors of France.
These medals date back to the period of the French Third Republic (late 19th – early 20th centuries) and were awarded for bravery and selflessness.
