Ducatton en argent néerlandais – An 1649 – République néerlandaise – 32,4 g

Customer This impressive Dutch silver ducaton struck in 1649 represents one of the most iconic large silver trade coins of the Dutch Republic during the seventeenth century. These imposing coins circulated widely throughout Europe and overseas trade networks, reflecting the immense commercial power of the United Provinces during the Dutch Golden Age. The portrait of the ruler dominates the obverse, conveying the authority and prestige associated with this large denomination.

The obverse displays a finely engraved bust in profile wearing elaborate armor and a decorated collar, surrounded by a bold legend and a beaded border. The reverse features the crowned arms supported by two heraldic lions, a composition that emphasizes dynastic legitimacy and the sovereignty of the issuing authority. The sharpness of the devices, the fully defined lettering, and the complete preservation of the relief strongly highlight the exceptional state of the coin.

The piece remains fully uncirculated, with remarkable detail across both sides and minimal signs of handling. The surfaces retain their original character, allowing the sculptural quality of the engraving and the depth of the strike to be fully appreciated.
