Magnifique masque éléphant decoratif perlé bamiliké. Chez les bamilikés, l'éléphant est l'animal le plus important, il incarne le roi. Cette ethnie a développé un savoir-faire unique sur le continent africain, reconnu par l'Unesco: l'art d'utiliser les perles. Cet art devient parures, utilisées à chaque étape de la vie des individus et de chaque chefferie. Les Bamilikés occupent l'Ouest du Cameroun. La division en chefferie date du XIV ème siècle. Chaque chefferie est dirigée par un roi, le fon. Les Sociétés secrètes jouent un rôle essentiel, elles pratiquent et organisent les cultes rituels et sont gardiennes de l'ordre social.
