In the 1960s, Lichtner-Aix was captivated by the Fauvist group in Paris, which later influenced his color palette. The landscapes and urban life of the French Provence were also a defining influence on his work. "In his paintings, 'the primordial earth, the human, and the inviolable cosmic, through the perfect application of color and light, are transformed into a harmonizing poetry of unity'" [Werner Lichtner-Aix: Drawings, Prints, and Paintings.
