Vintage Men's Magazines - Players (Premier Issue No.1 & No. 2) + Playboy US (August 1969) Americana

This lot features three highly iconic and historically significant magazines from the golden era of men's lifestyle publishing, including the legendary, ultra-scarce premier issue of Players Magazine. Complete and with centerfolds.

Lot Details:
Players Magazine – Premier Issue (Vol. 1, No. 1, November 1973)
Condition: Mint (M) – In absolute top condition, unread and preserved in protective plastic sleeve.
Cover Model: The breathtaking Zeudi Araya (Miss Ethiopia 1969 / European cult cinema icon).
Highlights: The historic first issue of the magazine created as the premier response to Playboy, focusing on African-American culture. Includes a landmark interview with Shaft star Richard Roundtree and an article on Black Panther Party co-founder Huey P. Newton.

Players Magazine – Volume 1, Number 2 (December 1973)
Condition: Mint (M) – Pristine, unread condition, preserved in protective plastic sleeve.
Highlights: Urban fashion and culture icon Roz Miles (Shaft's Big Score), an insider look at Hollywood by Bernie Casey, and sharp political satire on the Watergate scandal by legendary civil rights activist and comedian Dick Gregory.

Playboy US – August 1969
Condition: Near Mint (NM) – Exceptionally well-preserved copy with only minimal, natural shelf wear to the spine. Vibrant cover colors and completely intact inside.
Cover Model: The iconic freckled blonde Penny James.
Playmate of the Month: Debbie Hooper (includes the original, undamaged centerfold poster attached to the binding).

Before Players launched in 1973, mainstream men's lifestyle and adult entertainment titles (like Playboy or Penthouse) rarely featured Black women, and when they did, it was sporadic. Players was specifically launched to fill this massive vacuum. Earned the nickname "The Black Playboy," it gave African American men an elegant, high-production alternative that celebrated Black beauty, natural skin tones, and diverse hair types, directly challenging white-centric media standards.
