Description fournie par le vendeur
Offered here is a beautiful Japanese lacquerware document box (Fubako) crafted in the tradition of Aizu-nuri (Aizu lacquerware), one of Japan’s most celebrated lacquerware styles.
The lid is decorated with elegant Ukiyo-e inspired motifs, appearing to feature scenes associated with Katsushika Hokusai’s iconic works, including representations reminiscent of The Great Wave, Red Fuji (South Wind, Clear Sky), and other traditional Japanese landscapes. The combination of classical Japanese art and refined lacquer craftsmanship creates a sophisticated and highly decorative piece.
Traditionally, a Fubako was used to store letters, documents, and treasured items. Today, it is appreciated both as a functional storage box and as an attractive collector’s item representing Japanese cultural heritage.
