Résumé assisté par IA

Description fournie par le vendeur

This is an iconic earthenware decorative plate from around 1920, produced under the 'Holland Handelsmerk' factory mark. The plate is styled in the manner of the Amsterdam School (a movement within Art Deco). The design is often attributed to the renowned artist Christiaan Johannes (Chris) van der Hoef.

Surrounding the central image is the text: "Die hier als vriend naar binnen gaat, komt nooit te vroeg, maar steeds te laat" (He who enters here as a friend never arrives too early, but always too late). This is a traditional, welcoming Dutch saying.

The central illustration depicts a host tipping his hat and shaking hands with a visitor at the front door of a brick house.

Background information: Plates from this series were sometimes marked on the back with a stamp featuring a pot-bellied stove and the word 'Holland', and sometimes left unmarked. A large collection of this type of graphic and industrial earthenware can currently be viewed at Museum Het Schip in Amsterdam.
