Nowicki (1994) - Trance

In Trance, Jakub Nowicki presents a mysterious female figure suspended between dream and contemplation. Her closed eyes and gently inclined head suggest a state of inner stillness, while a vivid crimson halo frames her face with almost sacred intensity. Cascading copper hair flows through the composition like a stream of light, contrasting with the dark, atmospheric drapery that envelops her body.

Executed with expressive brushwork and subtle tonal transitions, the painting merges contemporary symbolism with echoes of religious iconography and Romantic portraiture. Nowicki (b. 1994, Poland) studied at the Państwowe Liceum Sztuk Plastycznych im. J. Pankiewicza in Katowice before graduating from the London College of Fashion. Working across painting and fashion, his practice is influenced by artists such as Zdzisław Beksiński and Olga Boznańska, as well as designers Philip Treacy and Alexander McQueen. His work has been exhibited in Katowice, Radomsko, and Warsaw.
