Antique Hand-Painted Fan – Silk & Carved Bone or wood – France – c. 1880 – Romantic Scene
A refined and elegant antique hand fan dating from the late 19th century, most likely of French origin.
This beautiful example features a delicately hand-painted silk leaf, adorned with romantic Rococo-style scenes, floral garlands, ribbons and charming decorative motifs. The composition reflects the revival of 18th-century aesthetics that was highly fashionable during the Belle Époque.
The fan is mounted on a finely carved and pierced bone or wooden structure, richly decorated with floral motifs and subtle gilded accents. The craftsmanship of the guards and sticks shows excellent attention to detail, typical of quality European production of the period.
Small decorative sequins enhance the floral baskets, adding a subtle sparkle when the fan is handled.
Originally, such fans were essential accessories for elegant ladies, used not only for cooling but also as a refined means of social communication during gatherings, balls and ceremonies.
Today, it makes a superb decorative object or a perfect addition to a wedding or romantic interior setting.
