Antique English Sterling Silver Hair Brush – Birmingham Assay Office, Louis XV Revival Style, c. Late 19th – Early 20th Century
An elegant antique sterling silver hair brush, hallmarked at the Birmingham Assay Office and crafted in the richly ornamented Louis XV Revival (Rococo Revival) style. Beautifully decorated with finely executed repoussé scrollwork, acanthus foliage and floral motifs, this refined vanity accessory is a superb example of late Victorian or Edwardian silver craftsmanship.
The brush features an elaborate embossed silver back with an unengraved central cartouche, allowing the intricate Rococo decoration to remain perfectly balanced. It retains its original natural bristles and displays the exceptional quality associated with fine English sterling silver dressing table accessories.
The silver bears English hallmarks, including the lion passant, confirming sterling silver (.925), together with the anchor of the Birmingham Assay Office and the maker’s mark L.S. & Co.
Good antique condition with normal age-related wear. The silver surface shows some minor dents, light wear and surface marks consistent with over a century of careful use. There is a small hairline crack to the silver handle. The original natural bristles remain well preserved. These age-related imperfections are reflected in the photographs and do not diminish the decorative appeal or collectability of this beautiful piece.
