Selling here is a truly superb original watercolour by the well listed illustrator, Nadir Quinto 1918-1994. From the Baron Munchausen series, published in Treasure. Signed to the lower right and dated 10/12/66 to verso.

A wonderful example, presented in a modern green mount.

José Luis Salinas worked in the advertising field starting in 1929 for some of Argentina's biggest agencies. His earliest work appeared in El Tony and Paginas de Columba. Seven years later, he created his first sucessful comic series, 'Hernán el Corsario', which appeared in the pages of Patoruzú. This was soon followed by numerous series, like 'Capitàn Tormenta', 'La Costa de Marfil', 'Miguel Strogoff', 'Los Tres Mosqueteros', and others. For El Hogar, Salinas drew comic adaptations of popular literature. Salinas was strongly influenced by Alex Raymond.
In 1949, Salinas moved to the United States, where he joined King Features. For this syndicate, he illustrated the newspaper strip of O'Henry's 'Cisco Kid' from 1951 to 1968. During this period he also drew the humorous series 'Ellos' (1957), later continued by João Mottini. After 'Cisco Kid', Salinas focused on painting and illustration work, only returning to comics in 1971 to do the 'Gunner' strip with scripts by Alfredo Grassi. 'Gunner' was later continued by Lucho Olivera and later Carlos Pedrazzini.
José Luis Salinas was a strong influence on Henk Alleman, Carlos Casalla, Julio Shimamoto, Marten Toonder and Primaggio Mantovi.
