Sony TC-377 Three-Head Stereo Tape Recorder – Vintage Reel-to-Reel
A beautiful and well-preserved Sony TC-377 Three-Head Stereo Tape Recorder, a classic Japanese reel-to-reel machine from the golden era of analogue audio.
This particular example comes from my grandfather’s private collection. It had been kept for many years and had not been used for a long period of time. The recorder has recently been taken out of storage and carefully tested.
The unit has been tested and is currently functioning. As is normal with vintage electronic equipment of this age that has remained unused for an extended period, the machine required a short warm-up period before operating properly and reaching stable operation.
An important part of the history of this particular unit is the original service receipt dated 03/06/2008, which is included with the lot. The receipt documents a service/repair carried out on the Sony TC-377, serial number 17470, directly corresponding to the unit offered here.
The recorder presents very well overall for its age, retaining its original wooden cabinet, controls, front panel and characteristic vintage appearance. There are some minor age-related cosmetic marks and signs of previous use, consistent with a vintage machine of this period.
The transparent Plexiglas front cover has an old repair carried out with a special adhesive. The repair has held securely over the years, and the Plexiglas remains intact, firmly in place and fully usable. The repaired area is visible upon close inspection and is clearly shown in the photographs. The cover also has a few very minor, scattered hairline scratches, barely noticeable and consistent with its age and previous use.
The main functions of the recorder have been tested, including the reel mechanism, controls and VU meters. The unit is currently operational. However, buyers should keep in mind that this is a decades-old vintage electronic device, and its performance should not be compared with that of modern equipment.
Also included are two vintage Ampex reel-to-reel tapes, presented on their original Ampex reels as shown in the photographs. Their contents have not been independently verified and they are included in the lot in their present condition.
The original service receipt is included and forms an interesting part of the history and provenance of this particular example.
Please study all photographs carefully, as they form an integral part of the description and show the exact item, its condition and everything included in this lot.
A particularly appealing piece for collectors of vintage Sony equipment, analogue-audio enthusiasts and lovers of classic Japanese industrial design. Its documented service history, family provenance, original appearance and accompanying Ampex reels make this a particularly interesting addition to a vintage audio collection.
