Antica poltrona Savonarola / in stile Rinascimentale – XIX/XX secolo – Legno intagliato, seduta in velluto

Elegante e scenografica poltrona antica di grande carattere decorativo, realizzata in legno massello con struttura a X, tipica delle poltrone storiche ispirate ai modelli rinascimentali italiani e comunemente conosciute come Savonarola o sedute “a curule”.

Il pezzo presenta una struttura particolarmente raffinata, caratterizzata da linee curve e armoniose, montanti laterali sagomati, braccioli elegantemente incurvati e piedi a forma arcuata che si incrociano nella parte inferiore. Al centro della struttura è presente un elemento decorativo circolare a motivo a rosetta, mentre la parte superiore dello schienale è costituita da una pregevole cimasa lignea sagomata e scolpita.

La cimasa superiore è il principale elemento decorativo della poltrona: presenta un profilo mosso, con volute e sagomature simmetriche, un grande medaglione ovale centrale con inserto tessile color ocra e ulteriori decorazioni incise ai lati. I braccioli, di forma sinuosa, terminano con eleganti elementi scolpiti e contribuiscono a conferire alla poltrona un aspetto monumentale ed elegante.

La seduta è realizzata in velluto color ocra/mustard, impreziosito lungo il bordo anteriore da una caratteristica frangia decorativa, fissata con piccoli elementi metallici. Il contrasto tra il caldo colore del velluto e la tonalità bruno-rossastra del legno crea un insieme particolarmente ricco e decorativo.

La parte superiore è lavorata con intagli e modanature decorative. L’inserto ovale centrale della cimasa e la seduta in velluto aggiungono un raffinato contrasto materico.

Condizioni

Condizioni vintage/antiche coerenti con l’età e con la storia dell’oggetto. Il legno presenta normali segni del tempo, piccole abrasioni, variazioni della patina, graffi e tracce d’uso visibili nelle fotografie. Il velluto della seduta presenta segni di utilizzo e naturale usura, oltre ad alcune imperfezioni del tessuto.

Antique Savonarola / Renaissance Revival Armchair – 19th/20th Century – Carved Wood and Velvet

Elegant and highly decorative antique armchair with a distinctive X-shaped frame, inspired by historic Italian Renaissance seating models commonly known as Savonarola chairs or curule-style chairs.

The chair features a beautifully shaped solid wooden structure with sweeping curves, sculpted side supports, elegant curved armrests and crossed arched legs. At the centre of the lower structure is a decorative carved rosette, while the upper section is dominated by a finely shaped and ornamented wooden crest.

The upper crest is particularly impressive, with a highly decorative profile, curved contours and symmetrical carved details. At its centre is a large oval medallion containing a warm ochre/golden textile insert, surrounded by carved and moulded wooden decoration.

The curved armrests are another important feature, with sculptural shaping and elegant carved terminals. Their flowing form contrasts beautifully with the geometric X-shaped construction of the lower frame.

The seat is upholstered in mustard/ochre velvet, finished at the front with an attractive decorative fringe secured with small metallic studs. The combination of the golden textile and the warm reddish-brown wooden patina gives the chair a particularly rich and sophisticated appearance.

Style and Period

The design is strongly inspired by Italian Renaissance furniture, subsequently reinterpreted during the Historicist / Renaissance Revival period.
