An exceptionally decorative antique porcelain vase by Samson, Paris, bearing the manufacture’s mark to the underside.
The vase is distinguished by its spectacular triple-gourd silhouette, composed of three graduated bulbous sections rising into an elegant elongated neck. The unusual architectural form gives the piece an impressive sculptural presence while retaining the refinement characteristic of Samson’s historicist porcelain production.
The decoration is particularly elaborate. The luminous ivory-white porcelain is richly hand-painted with delicate polychrome floral bouquets and scattered blossoms, rendered in soft shades of rose, coral, violet and green.
