Exceptional and rare French crystal champagne decanter dating from the late 19th century, possibly produced by Le Blanc or the Choisy-le-Roi manufacture.
The decanter presents a magnificent rounded body of generous proportions, raised upon a substantial circular pedestal foot and surmounted by a tall, slender neck. Its beautifully balanced silhouette is enhanced by refined hand-cut decoration around the shoulders, composed of long intersecting leaves and stylised botanical motifs, framed by a delicately cut geometric band around the neck.
The design is completed by an imposing elongated crystal stopper, richly faceted and decorated with deep vertical flutes. Its sculptural teardrop form captures and refracts the light beautifully, giving the decanter a remarkable brilliance and elegant presence.
The most exceptional detail is the original antique mother-of-pearl “CHAMPAGNE” label, suspended from a fine metal chain around the neck. The warm iridescence of the natural mother-of-pearl and the beautifully aged lettering create a luxurious contrast with the clear crystal. Surviving examples retaining such specialised period labels are particularly rare and highly desirable among collectors.
The decanter is preserved in exceptionally fine antique condition considering its age. The crystal retains remarkable clarity, brilliance and purity. Normal traces of time and use are present, together with a small chip on the stopper and minor age-related imperfections, none of which detract from the overall beauty or imposing decorative effect of the piece.
