Description fournie par le vendeur

Antique WMF Art Nouveau / Jugendstil Figural Visiting Card Tray
Catalog Model No. 246
Germany, circa 1906

A fine and complete example of one of WMF’s most recognizable Art Nouveau figural designs.

The composition depicts a graceful winged fairy or nymph gently cradling a dove in her hands. Behind the figure, two broad water-lily leaves form twin shallow trays, supported by elegant, sinuous stems that flow organically into the sculpted base. A naturalistic floral spray completes the composition.

The design corresponds to WMF catalog model No. 246, illustrated on page 167 of the company’s 1906 trade catalog. The model is traditionally attributed to Albert Mayer, who directed WMF’s art studio during its celebrated Jugendstil period.

Originally intended as a visiting or calling card tray, the piece also displays beautifully as a table centerpiece, tazza, vide-poche, or sculptural decorative object.
