Description

Le Corbusier à Firminy-Vert – Manifeste pour un urbanisme moderne by Gilles Ragot is an extensively illustrated study of one of Le Corbusier’s most important post-war architectural and urban planning projects.

Firminy-Vert, near Saint-Étienne in France, was conceived as an ambitious model for modern urban living. Developed from the 1950s onwards, the project incorporated Le Corbusier’s revolutionary ideas about architecture, housing, public space and the relationship between buildings and their inhabitants.

The book explores the history and development of Firminy-Vert, from the original urban planning concepts through to the realization of several major buildings. Particular attention is given to Le Corbusier’s Maison de la Culture, stadium, Unité d’Habitation and Église Saint-Pierre.

Written by architecture specialist Gilles Ragot, the publication combines historical research with architectural photography, drawings and archival material. It provides an in-depth look at Le Corbusier’s vision of a modern city and the social ideas behind his architecture.

The book is an excellent reference for collectors and enthusiasts of Le Corbusier, modernist architecture, Brutalism, post-war architecture, urban planning and 20th-century design.

Le Corbusier is considered one of the most important figures in architecture and design from the same era such as Jean Prouve, Enzo Mari, Ettore Sottsass, Charlotte Perriand, such as George Nelson, Eames, Hella Jongerius, Verner Panton, Frank Gehry, Ronan & Erwan Bouroullec, Maarten Van Severen, Aalvar Aalto and Alexander Girard.

Le Corbusier, was a Swiss-French architect, designer, painter, urban planner and writer, who was one of the pioneers of what is now regarded as modern architecture.
He was born in Switzerland to French speaking Swiss parents, and acquired French nationality by naturalization on 19 September 1930.
