A remarkable group of three Russian Orthodox devotional objects, comprising a large cast copper-alloy Orthodox cross together with two smaller icon plaques, all decorated with finely detailed relief work and traces of coloured enamel.
The central cross depicts the Crucifixion of Christ, surrounded by numerous Orthodox inscriptions, saints and traditional Christian symbols. The upper section includes the Mandylion / Holy Face and the Evangelists, while the lower part is decorated with further religious motifs. The cross retains an attractive, naturally aged dark patina with areas of lighter metal showing through.
The two accompanying plaques are rectangular devotional icons with decorative arched upper sections. They depict groups of saints in relief and retain significant remains of blue and green enamel, particularly around the figures and ornamental borders.
The reverse sides are particularly interesting: the pieces are made from relatively thin cast copper alloy, with visible age-related surface wear, oxidation and traces of manufacture. The construction and patination are consistent with objects intended for private Orthodox devotion.
