**L’If Saint-Émilion – A Vertical Journey 2011–2014**
L’If is the Saint-Émilion project of Jacques Thienpont, the renowned owner of the legendary Le Pin in Pomerol. Acquired in 2010, the estate sits on the limestone-rich plateau of Saint-Émilion, where Merlot and Cabernet Franc produce wines with remarkable freshness, precision and elegance.
This rare four-vintage vertical offers a fascinating opportunity to discover the early years of L’If and to see how the character of the estate expresses itself through four very different Bordeaux vintages.
**2011 – Refined & Structured**
One of the earliest vintages made under the Thienpont family. Predominantly Merlot with Cabernet Franc, the 2011 is elegant and focused, showing ripe plum and dark berries alongside cedar, tobacco and subtle spice. Firm yet polished tannins give the wine structure and energy.
**2012 – Silky & Complete**
A more generous and harmonious expression of L’If. Dark and red cherries, blackberry and plum are complemented by floral notes, herbs, graphite and hints of truffle. The palate is silky and refined, combining ripe fruit with freshness and fine tannins. Perhaps the most classically balanced wine of this four-year sequence.
**2013 – Fresh & Distinctive**
A particularly interesting vintage, produced from 100% Merlot. Lighter and more approachable than the surrounding years, it combines black cherry and kirsch with liquorice, earthy notes and a pronounced mineral character. Fresh, supple and elegant, it demonstrates how L’If maintained precision even in a challenging Bordeaux vintage.
**2014 – Rich & Powerful**
The most opulent expression of the four. Dominated by Merlot, the 2014 delivers dark cherry, plum and ripe raspberry with chocolate, sweet spice and subtle mineral notes. It has greater concentration and richness, yet retains the freshness and fine structure that have become signatures of L’If.
**Four vintages. Four expressions. One terroir.**
Tasted together, 2011, 2012, 2013 et 2014 tell the story of the formative years of L’If: from the structured elegance of 2011 and silky balance of 2012, through the pure, fresh expression of 2013, to the richer and more powerful 2014.
A rare Saint-Émilion vertical and a unique opportunity to follow the evolution of one of Jacques Thienpont’s most intriguing estates.
