Mother with child – glazed ceramic – Germany – mid 20e siècle
Professionally shipped – more than 950 five-star reviews worldwide.
This sculpture shows a seated mother holding her child protectively against her; their heads touch, emphasizing the tender bond between mother and child. The subject aligns with the traditional Madonna and Child, but here it is developed in a simplified, modern design.
The deep wine-red glaze is combined with softly marbled gray-pink tones for the faces, hands and the child's clothing. The wide folds of the garment form at the same time the base of the sculpture.
Height about 21 cm; in very good overall condition with only minor signs of aging and use; at the bottom marked “Figural” and “Made in Germany”.
