Le Château L'Évangile 1988 est un vin rouge prestigieux de l'appellation Pomerol à Bordeaux, reconnu pour son élégance et son potentiel de garde

Bien que les vins de Pomerol n'aient jamais fait l'objet d'aucun classement, Château L'Evangile figure sans conteste parmi les meilleurs vins de l'appellation. Le domaine a été créé au milieu du XVIIIème siècle par une famille libournaise, les Léglise, qui ont contribué à la constitution du vignoble de Pomerol, aux côtés des familles propriétaires des domaines de Petrus (famille Arnaud), La Conseillante (Catherine Conseillant) et Trotanoy (famille Giraud). Jusqu'alors dénommé Fazilleau, le domaine prend le nom de l'Evangile au tout début du XIXème siècle, sous la houlette de l'avocat Isambert, qui en restera propriétaire jusqu'en 1862. Racheté par Paul Chaperon, Château L'Evangile demeure dans le giron de ses descendants, les Ducasse, jusqu'en 1990. Depuis cette date, l'équipe du château Lafite Rothschild a progressivement repris le contrôle du domaine. Les anciens propriétaires étaient déjà parfaitement conscients du remarquable potentiel de ce terroir d'exception, constitué d'un sous-sol profond et hétérogène de graves mêlées d'argile et de sable. Même les gelées redoutables de l'hiver 1956 n'ont pu avoir tout à fait raison du vignoble de Château L'Evangile. Louis Ducasse reprend en main le domaine tout de même exsangue, renouvelle le vignoble et le réhausse en quelques années à son meilleur niveau. Un niveau qui ne connaîtra pas de fléchissement, même à son décès en 1982, puisque son épouse prend sa suite avec une remarquable ténacité. Depuis 1990, le domaine est la propriété du groupe Barons de Rothschild, qui lui consacre toutes les attentions et les investissements nécessaires.

A propos de la cuvée
Aujourd'hui, la nouvelle équipe pratique des vendanges les plus tardives possibles afin d'obtenir des raisins d'une parfaite maturité, un rendement limité et un élevage de 18 mois dans des fûts de chêne neufs à 70%. L'ambition clairement affichée de hisser l'Evangile au plus haut rang de l'appellation semble atteinte : ces vins d'une grande richesse, à la robe rubis foncé et aux arômes de framboise, de mûre, parfois de réglisse, font preuve d'une capacité de garde impressionnante.

Although Pomerol wines have never been classified, Château L'Evangile is undoubtedly among the best wines in the appellation. The estate was created in the middle of the 18th century by a Libourne family, the Léglise, who contributed to the constitution of the Pomerol vineyard, alongside the families who own the domains of Petrus (Arnaud family), La Conseillante (Catherine Conseillant) and Trotanoy (Giraud family). Until then called Fazilleau, the estate took the name of the Gospel at the very beginning of the 19th century, under the leadership of the lawyer Isambert, who remained its owner until 1862. Bought by Paul Chaperon, Château L'Evangile remained in the fold of his descendants, the Ducasse, until 1990. Since that date, the Lafite Rothschild Castle team has gradually regained control of the estate. The former owners were already perfectly aware of the remarkable potential of this exceptional terroir, consisting of a deep and heterogeneous basement of gravel mixtures of clay and sand. Even the formidable frosts of the winter of 1956 could not quite get the better of the Château L'Evangile vineyard. Louis Ducasse takes over the estate still bloodless, renews the vineyard and raises it in a few years to its best level. A level that will not decline, even at his death in 1982, since his wife follows him with remarkable tenacity. Since 1990, the estate has been the property of the Barons de Rothschild group, which devotes all the necessary attention and investments to it.

About the vintage

Today, the new team practices the latest possible harvests in order to obtain grapes of perfect maturity, limited yield and 18-month aging in 70% new oak barrels. The clearly displayed ambition to raise the Gospel to the highest rank of the appellation seems to be achieved: these wines of great richness, with a dark ruby color and aromas of raspberry, blackberry, sometimes licorice, show an impressive storage capacity.
