Technics 641 Cassette Deck

The Technics RS-641 is a high-quality vintage stereo cassette deck from the late 1970s, produced in Japan between approximately 1977 and 1979. It is a substantial 2-head cassette deck designed for both high-quality playback and recording, featuring Technics’ FG servo-controlled DC motor and a belt-driven single-capstan transport.

The RS-641 supports Normal, FeCr and CrO₂ tapes and offers separate three-position bias and equalization selection, allowing the deck to be optimized for different tape formulations. For noise reduction, Technics equipped the deck with Dolby B, achieving a specified signal-to-noise ratio of up to 67 dB with Dolby NR engaged.

A distinctive feature is its digital peak-reading level meters, while the mechanical three-digit tape counter and memory function make it convenient for locating sections of a cassette. The deck also provides cue/review operation and front-panel microphone inputs, making it suitable for both home recording and playback applications.

To deliver this product properly, it is carefully packed in very strong boxes, thereby wrapped in bubble wrap with lots of padding.
