You are bidding on a good french 4/4 violin, labeled "H. C. Silvestre a Paris 1872 HCS".
Condition:
Some wear and tear to golden amber varnish. Probably some small not visible cracks included a repaired crack to a-peg-hole.
Description:
Good quality straight high grained spruce was chosen for the top, and the maple of two pieces back with beautiful grain is softly flamed. Matched sides and scroll. The purfling is a tasteful work of good craftsmanship, just as the rich brown color varnish. The whole length of the violin is 585 mm and the back 361 mm. The width of the upper bouts: 169 mm; middle bouts: 114 mm; lower bouts: 207 mm. Full size. The sound is very deep, rich, warm and powerful.
