Vintage Turkish Oushak Kilim – 286 x 188 cm – Ivory White Minimalist Geometric Design – Handwoven

Description

A distinctive vintage Turkish Oushak kilim from Anatolia, characterized by its unusually calm, minimalist composition and beautifully aged ivory-white ground.

Measuring 286 x 188 cm (approximately 9.4 x 6.2 ft), this is a generously sized vintage flatweave with a wonderfully understated decorative character.

Unlike the heavily patterned Anatolian kilims more commonly encountered, this piece features an almost monochromatic natural ivory, cream and off-white field, decorated with delicate rows of small geometric motifs in red, pink, blue, green, orange and dark brown.

The tiny colorful motifs appear almost like scattered jewels across the neutral field, giving the textile a remarkably contemporary appearance while preserving the unmistakable irregularity and personality of traditional hand weaving.

A particularly interesting feature is its two-panel construction. The two long handwoven sections have been traditionally joined through the center, a characteristic that adds to the authentic handmade appearance of the textile.

The surface shows natural tonal variations, irregularities and traces of age that create a beautiful patina rather than the uniform appearance of a modern reproduction.

Because of its restrained palette and minimalist design, this kilim works especially well in Wabi-Sabi, Scandinavian, Japandi, Mediterranean, rustic and contemporary interiors.
