Description fournie par le vendeur
A reference work on Zurbarán by Odile Delenda
Odile Delenda, former professor at the École du Louvre now research director at the Wildenstein Institute and leading specialist in Spanish Golden Age art, has devoted a large part of her recent scientific activity to the painter Francisco de Zurbarán. She is notably responsible for the French translation of the important monograph on the artist, carried out more than fifteen years ago by Spanish art historian Maria Luisa Caturla.
In addition to this already capital contribution from Odile Delenda to the study of the Sevillian painter, the Zurbarán specialist has recently published a new work entirely devoted to the artist, which was announced by the Wildenstein Institute as the "first true critical and catalog raisonné dedicated to this great master of the 17th century". If this catalog raisonné is intended to be the new reference source dedicated to Zurbarán, it is because the immense work done by Odile Delenda makes it an extremely comprehensive publication. First of all, the art historian has separated the painter's paintings from those of his workshop, a completely unprecedented task in terms of the study of this Spanish painter. Each work, with its authorship thus clearly defined, has been meticulously studied to be enriched with a technical sheet, its history, and an expanded commentary of documents and comparative analyses. But the scientific interest of this catalog raisonné does not stop there since it also includes the very first reproduction of the radiographs of the paintings carried out by the Instituto del Patrimonio Cultural de España. Odile Delenda also received the collaboration of Almudena Ros de Barbero, who established a chronology of Zurbarán's life, very useful for placing the painter in his time. Furthermore, the work is supplemented by a CD-Rom which, by reproducing each of the written technical notices, aims to enhance its consultation. This tool provides a slight additional benefit since each work notice has been, in its digital version, augmented with bibliographic references and indications regarding the exhibitions in which it was featured.
