Rare and collectible edition with 48 charming colour plates by Margaret W. Tarrant

An uncommon early Ward Lock edition of Lewis Carroll's classic work. This edition with the rectangular "mad hatters" plate and the gilt lettering was only produced for four years so is far rarer with these original covers. The book is profusely illustrated, featuring 48 beautiful colour plates, including frontispiece by the well-known and popular illustrator Margaret Tarrant.

Published by Ward, Lock & Co. Limited, London, Melbourne and Toronto, 1916. Publisher’s original dark blue cloth with gilt lettering, and blind-stamped rules to upper board and spine, pictorial onlay of "The Mad Hatters Tea Party" to upper board. Coloured endpaper.

Book Dimensions: 21 x 15 x 3 and Number of Pages: 340 pages including publishers catalogue to rear.

Condition:
Minor wear at extremities with slight rubbing to corners, and faded marks and scuffing to covers. Some repairs to the spine joints as you can see in pictures. Internally; the book in good condition. First front free endpaper page is missing. Old inscription dated 1923 on the verse of the title page. Foxing spots or age marks to some pages, with slight tears to the margin of couple pages.
