Sárga Trilobites Declivolithus (Nankinolithus) titan Halott Gyűjtemény - 3,3 x 4,1 cm (a legnagyobb) - Fosszilizálódott állat

Rare and Exceptionally Preserved Slab Featuring Declivolithus (Nankinolithus) titan – Mecissi Area, Morocco | #PAIS 8743 See scale and details in the pictures. High-resolution photos show scale, matrix context, individual specimens, and magnified views for complete assessment. Note presented microscopical pictures of the pits. This scientifically significant slab from the Upper Ordovician of Morocco features three adult specimens of Declivolithus (Nankinolithus) titan, a distinctive trinucleid trilobite with dramatic cephalic pits along its cranidium. The largest specimen measures 3.3 × 4.1 cm. The deep, well-defined pits on the head shield are a defining feature of the species. Their exact function remains debated, with hypotheses including sensory reception, hydrodynamic stabilisation, or assistance in filter feeding — but their consistent development across individuals suggests an essential biological role. Restoration details: Natural specimens. The matrix was consolidated, mechanically prepared, and sandblasted to enhance the visibility of delicate structures. Dimensions Largest specimen: 3.3 × 4.1 cm Matrix: 21.5 × 11.5 cm Weight: 950 g Scientific Details Species: Declivolithus (Nankinolithus) titan (Fortey & Edgecombe, 2017) Family: Trinucleidae Order: Asaphida Class: Trilobita Lithostratigraphy: Lower Ktaoua Formation Age: Upper Ordovician (Sandbian–Katian Stage) – ca. 458–445 million years old Locality: Bou Nemrou, El Kaid Errami, Morocco Collection Code: #PAIS 8743 | Collected: January 2020 Why This Stands Out? • Rare multi-specimen assemblage of Declivolithus titan • Large-sized individuals • Deep cephalic pits clearly visible – a rare morphological feature • 3D preservation with minimal compression, indicating rapid burial under low-oxygen conditions • From the Mecissi area, one of the most productive Upper Ordovician fossil localities in the Anti-Atlas • Recently prepared from material collected in January 2020 | Fully documented provenance: #PAIS 8743 • Museum-grade specimens at a fair reserve price Special notes on coloration : The specimens exhibit striking yellow hues, likely resulting from mineralization processes in the exoskeletons – possibly involving iron oxides incorporated during diagenesis. These tones enhance the contrast with the warm-toned limestone matrix and highlight the 3D relief of the axial lobes, cephalic structures, and pleurae, adding both aesthetic elegance and taphonomic interest. Don’t miss this opportunity to own a true milestone in early arthropod evolution. Questions? We’re happy to help. Contact us for additional photos, details, or scientific references.
